Raising funds for local
community defibrillators

Tom

Tom Henson, of Bolsover, tragically passed away aged 23 while he was playing football with work colleagues at Gosforth Fields in Dronfield on July 31st 2018.

The Sheffield United fan and keen gym-goer sadly suffered a cardiac arrest due to an undiagnosed congenital heart condition.

Despite the best efforts of his friends, Dronfield Town youth team football coaches, community first responders, ambulance, air ambulance crews and the A&E team at Sheffield Northern General Hospital, Tom sadly died.

After his death Tom's friends and family decided to raise money to spend on defibrillators to be installed across Bolsover and surrounding areas to give other people the best chance of survival.

The reason for choosing defibrillators is that for a couple of weeks after Tom's death his friends and family didn't know if one had been used on him and it made them start to think of where the local ones were and how there should be more.

We eventually learned that three were used on Tom during the two hours that people worked to try to save him, but his heart condition was such that he could not have been saved by defibrillator.
